Do you start to feel all sorts of overwhelm? A tinge of execution anxiety? Like, you thought you had the week organized in your mind, but now everything is falling apart?
I felt it too. Ryan and I used to roll into our week without planning a thing. It took us to baby number four and our oldest child reaching the age of eight to realized that it just wasn't working.
It was like Monday would approach and we would fly by the seat of our pants. I thought I could hold all the information in my head, but I couldn't. I started missing soccer practice times, homework deadlines, and more.
My mind needed structure and my heart needed a plan. One day, I was scrolling social media and high performance coach, Brendon Burchard stopped me in my tracks. He said, "If you're going to do anything before you start your week; sit down on Sunday and plan your week ahead."
While he was referring to business, I immediately applied his recommendation to motherhood. Why weren't we sitting down to plan our week ahead as a family?
I mentioned the idea to my husband and he was immediately on board. How in the world were we going into our weeks without this little practice?
...WHEN IT'S MONDAY AND
THE WEEK ROLLS AROUND ...
This is when the idea of a "Weekly Roundup" came about. I needed a schedule that was organized that would hold me accountable and allow for execution. As such, every Sunday our family sat down together, reviewed, and wrote down (or typed out) the activities for the week ahead.
I printed the "Weekly Roundup" and taped it to the refrigerator for everyone to see. We left room to write things in and stayed flexible in case plans changed.
So, what happened then? I noticed our weeks began to flow. Our anxiety and decision fatigue reduced drastically.
I no longer had to question if I was getting the most out of our weeks with my kids because I had written proof that we were doing all that we could to maximize the days. The "Weekly Roundup" became a game changer.
And with that, I added in our "Weekly Meal Plan."
My hope is that it will bless your family just as much as it has blessed ours. Enjoy!
